The Danish data center industry will take another major growth step in the coming years and underscore Denmark's central role as a hotspot for data centers. A new market report from the Danish Datacenter Industry Association (DDI) estimates a quadrupling of the capacity of the so-called co-location data centers.

Based on the already known projects and current master plans with investors, DDI analyzes in its fresh market report "Danish Data Center Market 2021" that the growth of colocation data centers will pick up speed over the next four years. From a total capacity of 33 MW in 2021, it will grow to 136 MW in 2024, eg. a growth of 412%.

"It is a really good progress - even in a very dynamic industry like ours - and it will happen in parallel with almost a doubling of the capacity of the very large hyperscale data centers", emphasizes Merima Dzanic, Chief Operating Officer at Datacenter Industrien. “Of course, there can be shifts - both positive and negative - by, for example, changing schedules and strategies or unforeseen events, but it is a thorough and realistic estimate for the future. The growth is coming, and it is coming very strongly for co-location, which is an important focus area for the Datacenter Industry”, emphasizes Merima Dzanic.

"The industry has become more mature in Denmark, and we see a number of interesting opportunities for developing the climate-neutral data center," says Thomas Volder, chairman of Datacenter Industrien. “Data centers use a lot of energy, but precisely on energy efficiency and circular, green economy, we have a lot to offer at home. We must develop data centers in the green Danish way. Therefore, we also recommend in the market report that we seize the growth opportunities, i.a. with even higher political ambitions in the field."
