A fire at OVHcloud in France destroyed a company's data center in Strasbourg. A second data center has been partially affected and two other data centers are still offline. They don't come online today, according to the company.

In the early morning of Wednesday, there was a major incident at OVHcloud's SBG2 data center in Strasbourg, OVHcloud founder Octave Klaba writes on Twitter. According to him, the fire started in the building and the fire brigade was quickly on the spot, but the fire could not be controlled. It is unknown what started the fire.

The fire also impacts the nearby SBG1, SBG2 and SBG3 data centers. According to Klabe, SBG1 has also been partly destroyed and the fire brigade is cooling the other buildings with water to protect them. At 7:20 am Wednesday morning, the fire was under control. SBG3 and SBG4 would still be okay, but because the data centers are not accessible, they will not be restarted today. Klaba advises customers to activate their disaster recovery plans.

OVHcloud offers numerous cloud hosting services worldwide. The company has dozens of data centers spread across Europe, North America and Asia. According to a French local news website, around 100 firefighters and 43 fire engines were present. The data center that has been completely destroyed is five stories high and has a ground area of 500 square meters. The site also shows images of the firefighting activities.
